Dreaming of Prizes

The March Sweater Madness hosted by Michelle of www.TheSweetSheep.com is still on going. In April it will be UFO month. Cool. It's not all contest all the time it's more like a mini cheering section / KAL kinda thing. Everyone is welcome! (http://marchsweatermadness.blogspot.com/) Back to the contest. I won! My sweater may be a bit big on me but I was done first! I think I can either resew it or just give it to a coworker whom it does fit. I won a big parcel of prizes!

So I am trying to do a big dream big of all the prizes. So far only the Cherry Tree Hill has "spoken" to me. It wants to be (tah da). I love lacey socks but all the verigated yarns in the world look like rabid drooling howler monkeys in this pattern. In a semi-solid maybe it'ed work but when this came out I only had self striping and verigated. I looked like butt. But hot pick lace socks....I'm cool with that

The Self striping wants to be a cabled sock. I can feel it. Cookie A. released a few patterns for purchase. When Sweet Sheep get thier's in I'll be first in line. I really want the new sock book from Interweave too. The Socks That Rock is very precious it's the first and only skein I have of it...the pressure to use just the right pattern is extreme. (Plus hello the colourway has ORANGE) No way am I going to play fast and loose with STR in orange.

The really rocking pink and orange in the middle may end up being a hat. It's not superwash. So not so much with socks but again I love the colours and it's soo fantabulously soft...I want to say beret but I'ed never wear one....Definitly another one that's marked for some currently mysterious yet wonderful future.

The possum has very very secret plans. Very pop culture ...maybe a little ARRRR.. ;>9that is the only clue you get) The knitpicks gossemer in lime and teal is going to become some very fancy looking lace scarves probably of my own invention. I have a few great stitchionaries , I should manage to figure out my own shawl pattern....right?

Lots of sky flavoured pie I know but I got plans and that makes me very happy. Tonight I work on my gummi sock and my coat. Got a great new movie to watch and some amazing flavoured tea, life is good.

Dream Big

I'm calling this dream big to show project ideas I have. Let's face facts I usually have a lot of the go anyways so while I may never get the projects knit I want the freedom to at least dream of getting it done.

May I present to you the very first "dream big" project-The Anna Socks from Rowan 40. I had cast in on in Black but it was uninspired, not me, real melvin. I think they would be nice but when I saw this colourway "Jelly Bean Merino Tencil Sock Yarn by All Things Heather" at the Sweet Sheep. I knew what the yarn really wanted to be. For 2 days (I sware I should get a medal) I sat back knowing that someone out there saw the very same potential for these skiens that I did...but no one stepped forward. I obsessed cheking the page several times a day-but no one scooped them up! So obviously it was destiny. Fate. True Love. (CURSE YOU FATE! It was supposed to be a cute billionaire not 2 skeins of yarn!! Of course it IS really cute yarn...yeah I got no real complaints.)
Also is it a warning sign that some skeins I want just for the names...sKNITches Zombie for example. It's nice yarn greys and red.... but it's called Zombie...dudes...I am a little heartbroken that I missed it. I really hope they come out with a companion yarn called "Brrraaaaiiins". Cuz dat would be Sweet.

Secret Colour Swap

Well my postman came to my door yesterday and I missed him. But Ipicked Up my packages bright and early today. I had 3(!!) waiting for me. Including mY colour swap box from the lovely Gill from http://knittingatnumber9.blogspot.com/. She knew I loved orange and the box was full of orangy Goodness! All the yarns are from England too so it's going to have an extra special place in my heart.

See: how well she knows me. There was twix (was being the operative word. The colours are brighter than the picture but it was a cloudy day and the room didn't have much light (my flash "bleached" the yarns).

I want to say a big thank you to the lovely Gill! I'm really thrilled with all the gifts!

Oh a p.s. to the story is that my downstream pal the Knitty Prof recieved her package, you can find her blog at http://beadznyarnworks.blogspot.com/ .

I've been measuring this a lot.

Of course I finally take some pictures an Ohbz, aka the biggest cat ever, decides to flop down to act as scale....but it's hard to punish a Jedi cat-especially a rather dim-witted one. (Ohbz's official name is orange Blossom the First shortened to OB1 then for some reason just pronounced as Ohbz)

I'm about 11 inches up so I have about 3 more pattern repeats to go until the arm holes. Knitting feels really slow going on this. I have to remind myself there is 111 stitches in each row but it still seems to be dragging.

Luckily I have a distraction: Gummi Bunny Socks. (Well if he's going to lie there he's may as well model) I'll finish turning the heel tonight and motor through the foot on my weekend lunch hours. The sock looks kinda shrimpy but again this cat is really huge, think medium sized dog and you'ed be on the right track. Also my ball winding skills are mediocre at best.
I know what your thinking , only 2 projects? Well I am trying to pursuade mom to knit the strap to my messanger bag. It took me about 5 tries at 4 inches length before I realized it wasn't going to work. There are a lot of impatience vibes rewound into that Noro. But again only 2 projects on the go isn't my style. Remember way back I had wanted to knit Vivika from some recycled yarn?

This yarn to be exact.

Well it's decided to be a sweater coat. To be exact the City Coat from Domiknitrix. I am really hoping to have it done by the middle of next month. Repeat after me: It's Garter stitch with polar weight yarn on really big needles...It's garter stitch with polar weight yarn on really big needles...it's garter stitch.....

My Yahoo Messanger Has Been Wire Tappedby..well, me. Apparently.

The hamper and the hamster thing isn't the pointy part of this conversation but I thought it was funny. To preface I am doing major closet verhaul and washing everything I want to continure to own. Today I have been saying a lot of...when did I get that?, Or I've missed that, Remember how cute this was when it FIT (usually the last said in a much bitter voice followed by chocolate and pouting.)

YB: can you join 57 different knit exchanges?
Jinxsa Salem: um maybe
Jinxsa Salem: i probably SHOULDN'T tho
YB: *sighs*
Jinxsa Salem: ...probably...
Jinxsa Salem: ...kinda....
Jinxsa Salem: ....maybe...
Jinxsa Salem: ..sorta...
Jinxsa Salem: ...ish.
YB: snicker
YB: do I need to start an intervetion?
Jinxsa Salem: please see above
Jinxsa Salem: this wouldn't be such a problem if people bought me yarn
Jinxsa Salem: just random yarn showing up at my house
Jinxsa Salem: ...as long as it was good yarn
YB: he he he
Jinxsa Salem: <--yarn freak.
YB: very much so
Jinxsa Salem: <-- not planning to change that about myself either
YB: lol
Jinxsa Salem: <-- suggests people deal with it
YB: <-- suggest you should take care of that third person problem you seem to have.

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?

  • I love just about anything that doesn't squeek, right now I am eyeing a lot of superwash to use for gifts (when you don't kjnow how they will be washed it's safest)
  • My favourite things are really just soft yarns in bright vibrant colours.
  • I'm not a huge cotton fan but I've never really used a good cotton before.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
  • I have a big vase for my straights and a little jar for some of my dpns or a make-up bag depending on thier length.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
  • I've been knitting 2 years this coming August (so a year and a half) I learned from a few books and am still learning mainly with online tutorials, more books and a few knitting forums. Next month I'll be taking a couple of classes during a trip to Toronto.
